Vanadium, vanadium (IV) oxide, and vanadium (III) oxide are insoluble in water. The aqueous solubilities of vanadium (V) pentoxide, ammonium metavanadate (V), and sodium metavanadate (V) are 700 mg/1,000 g (25°C), 4.8×104 mg/1,000 g (20°C), and 2.1×105 mg/1,000 g (25°C), respectively.
Can vanadium react with water?
Reaction of vanadium with waterThe surface of vanadium metal is protected by an oxide layer and does not reacts with water under normal conditions.
Is vanadium aqueous?
Vanadium is one of the transition metals (together with chromium) with a remarkably rich and also remarkably colorful aqueous chemistry. Just to give an impression of the colorful chemistry, a picture is shown here with vanadium in all four oxidation states in acidic solution in the form of cations. Is V2O5 soluble in water?
Vanadium pentoxide appears as a yellow to red crystalline powder. Slightly soluble in water and denser than water.Does vanadium react with cold water?
Vanadium does not reacts with water, under normal conditions.Vanadium | A-level Chemistry | OCR, AQA, Edexcel
What substances does vanadium react with?
Chemical propertiesVanadium is moderately reactive. It does not react with oxygen in the air at room temperatures, nor does it dissolve in water. It does not react with some acids, such as hydrochloric or cold sulfuric acid. But it does become more reactive with hot acids, such as hot sulfuric and nitric acids.
